In My Biography

They will say she was afraid of things with too many legs.           She couldn’t sing but was often           caught in true attempts.           She didn’t drive until            twenty-eight and ready.           She snorted when she laughed and           had lots of swing in her Lindy.           She wanted jars full of buttons on her sill, and               children to count the tiny pieces,                the hauntings of wedding                dresses and army coats.           She once set off a fire alarm with passion and steam.           She was jumpy from growing up in a house full of boys.           She could fatten you up with praise and hot dishes.           She was the sister, and lover, and daughter, and teacher. Then, they will say she unapologetically wrote poetry.
