Abandoned Cabin

Light: squared, corn-silk pale, checkers the board floor, glorifying the dust on a three-legged table, a granite coffee pot. Like a colony of insects that has invaded, and won, the dust sings, its thousand eyes militant in victory. Nor has the presence gone of the old prospector. The prints of sturdy hands and booted feet remain, possessed and guarded by these jealous sentinels. My own song cannot be heard here. I am outvoiced.
