Winter Doesn't Last Forever

A brisk wintery day, we took one last stroll through the woods near Murphy's Crossing.   Mittened hands entwined, we made our way on the path blanketed by newly fallen snow. Passing Murphy's homestead, we continued on to the oak tree, (our oak tree) that stood barren by the now frozen pond. Wordlessly, we held each other  close, silenced by the memories of us, two solitary people, newfound happiness together. Looking into one anothers eyes, we promised to meet in the Spring, by the tree, where we'd first shared our love. One final kiss, one last hug, a final glance, we parted, separate once again, our time would soon arrive. Dusky skies faded. Blissful, I woke to robins singing and crocuses blooming, A new season beginning. On the prearranged day, I dashed eagerly to the woods, radiantly colored now with yellow daffodils and purple hyacinths. Leaning against the budding oak tree, you stood,  one solitary rose in hand and a smile that spoke a thousand words. Nestled snugly in your arms,  our lips met once again. The sun was out and winter was gone forever.
