Jealousy Please do not ask me now to do This thing to prove my love for you. My love’s not yours to win or lose, It’s mine to give to whom I choose, And if I choose to love her too, It does not change my love for you. What treasure did I take away To cause the pain you feel today? It’s you I chose to be my wife, And you’re the one who shares my life. All she will ever share with me Is a word, a glance, a memory. And when I hold you in my arms I do not need another’s charms, Nor could I leave our marriage bed To seek love’s pleasures there instead. So you have nothing then to fear, If you’ll but love and trust me dear. And since I feel no urgent need To repent some evil deed, Please do not ask me now to do This thing to prove my love for you. For if I kill my love for her How long will love for you endure? |
