Alan Booth's Profile:
Considering that I left school with no qualifications I could not argue with headmaster's summation of me that I was "not gifted academically". However, with some belated application on my part later in life I went on to study at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Leicester University and Hatfield Polytechnic. After completing my National Service in the Royal Army Medical Corps I then went on to qualify as an accountant working for British Waterways and Shell Mex and BP. I then trained to be a Conservative Party Agent and later worked as a Political Education Officer at the Conservative Central Office. Following this, I moved into industrial relations in local government and then, finally, into education - first as a lecturer at Cassio College, Watford and then at the United States International University. I recently retired from West Herts College where I was a Senior Lecturer in Accounting. My first novel - "The Trials and Tribulations of Arkwright and Doris Broughton" - was published in 2000 and, when time permits, I hope to complete a second book. I am married and have one son and play golf - but, as my Headmaster would have said, "he is not gifted at golf"
