The War

The couch is where we’ll sleep tonight There’s not much left in me to fight The voices screaming in my head That demand he must be dead Before time comes when we’ll finally feel Security that holds so much appeal Protected from demons of yore And all their torture, blood and gore They continue to rant and rave Nothing seems like it will save Me from my selves who act without My awareness - leaves me in doubt Of finding peace from murderous rage Threatening to break free from its cage Attacking anyone who dares to cross The path upon which we've been lost Including myself, there’s no escape As rage does not discriminate And insists that I too must die Instead of living another lie Razor’s edge severs the skin Sight of blood threatens those within Who dare try to rise up against Those inside who are so incensed The battle will wage again tonight With war’s end so far out of sight When murderous rage will ever learn That killing him or me will just burn The chance of feeling security Or of ever being really free.

Hi Mandie, This is an accomplished poem and one I read more than once. Your rhyming is is impeccable and has a lilting quality that carries the lines down the page with ease. I feel the pathos in every line with good words choices that express your feelings well. This is one of your very best poem, which is saying a lot. Your skill at writing serves you well, which to me, just gets better and better. Well done. Best wishes, cheyenne
