SHOCK

The day began with warmth of a promise, The lure of morning coffee gave me peace. Other than the inner nudge violating the calm, ignored with new strength to fulfill a promise. Time to leave, locking the front door, the phone in my hand begins to ring. Not wanting to answer yet knowing I must, hearing words of viciousness never heard before. The terror came spiraling, attacking my reason, shuddering the core of all fibers of my sole.  Screaming sounds of horror, sounds of death, never will I undertake this agonizing fate. Turning the direction of my entire life, knowing it absolutely can not be true, My body betrays me as I fall to the floor, disputing the call, glass fragments emerge. My sister observing not yet knowing why. she must depart as her need is at hand, Eyes closed tight as tears attempt to flow,  my life shatters, my existence is at risk.

Additional Notes:
I haven't posted on TPL for years. In fact, I haven't written a poem for over three years. This poem is the first one I have been able to write since our beautiful daughter, Kristy, age 38 and our fun and techno Grandson, Jordan, age five, were killed. We will never be the same and we walk though the grieving process for the rest of our lives. Thank you for allowing me to place my first poem, no matter how it is critiqued, on the first and only poetry site I have ever had.

Debbie, Yes it has been some time since you posted--while I'm delighted that you have graced us with your words it is with deep sadness and heartfelt compassion that I extend my condolences. Your poem is riveting and speaks to the heart of the reader--we are there sharing the call and the pain--no escape and we grieve with you. God bless and keep you dear one. Lora

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have loss a love one to violence and some to cancer, but every loss is different and terribly the same. Your poem paints a picture so perfect it was if I were standing there observing, not knowing what to say or do, feeling helpless. That is one of this works of this poem. It not only takes there,we share all the emotions of that moment. You have taken sad circumstances and written a great poem

Debbie, There is little that can be said to issue support or comfort for such a loss. The verse itself is so much train of thought that the actual mind and spirit, from any who have known such, and known you, nods and cares with you. It would be difficult to speak to this, not as a clergy, or close friend, or even detached philosopher- but what you have shared speaks more to us as poets, than the poetry we seek to compose. My heart is with you; odd how such an agonizing image and the sorrow that is as subjective as anything can be, is also objectively a blessing to me, that you shared the moment here. It is the intimacy of being human. I hope you find similar in my response.

Dear Debbie, My heartfelt condolences on the loss of Kristy & Jordan. I am still on this journey in my life after losing three family members in one year - the most tragic of all my son, age 29 six years ago and know in my heart this grief goes against the norm for a parent who imagines they will never have to hear such tragic words nor wake up to the nightmarish life it brings - My prayers are with you as well as me extending myself to you if you would like to contact me via my email here - I am so sorry to hear this news - May God bless you in your darkest moments along with giving you endurance to take baby steps toward healing - blessings, Deni
