Monica, I've a cat too. [Smoky] They are certainly their own person! I wish we people had such confidence and maybe as much integrity! A book to read; Kinship with all life/by Boone. About animal/human relations.....[my new years gift to you] I like the way you spaced the poem. It gave it the right emotion. Cute poem. The calming type. My best to you, Dellena

Dear Monica, I enjoyed this singing to your cat. I wonder why so much poetry is written by just watching the way they move? I like the short lines and the sounds you capture as well as the in and out of the lines like a cat's swishing tale. Thanks!

Oh Moni this has made my Christmas, to come back and see this lovely entry, I have thee Cats, all his Royal Highness, and the poem captures the essence of the surety, and routine, to a Tee. Moni you couldn't have written a poem without me commenting. Please bear with me I've been somewhat at odds, but your rythm, and linguistics all meet the critera for a very meaningful poem. Thank you for posting it. The most this Season that captures the sense of all beliefs, and hello to Arnie, and love always extended. Joanne Morgan (Jo Mo)

Monica, I guess, there is little here to really critique, but there is so much truth here that a comment is required. How this piece warmed my soul, of cats that I have cherished. I remember them well. CAT, my best friends cat, would never be caught dead doing all the things in your poem, but he was a king, the king of the neighborhood, and how. Piwacket, my Siamese cat of my youth, would fit the description you gave, and moreso. If you added a little more of the “my weary servants, serve me” you would have the blue blood aristocracy. There have been so many, but you have brought them all back. Thank you for a warm piece for Christmas.

Hi Monica, Glad to see you are writing again! I can easily relate to this story about King. When our children were little they began to ask the age old question...how are babies born? We diecided the best way to tell them was to let them witness birth so we got a cat we named Mama Kitty. She was some what of a harlot and soon became pregnant. I was at work when she went into labor but my husband told me he called the mothers of the neighbor kids who expressed a desire to see the kitten born and they all agreed that would be O.K. He let them sit on the basement stairs and he positioned Mama Kitty so they could all see. The first yowal (sp?) out of her and they all disappeared with the exception of our own three children who stuck it out to the end. We kept one kitten out of that litter and in no time Mama was preganant again! So we were in the cat business for quite some time....then we switched to dogs...spade or neutered dogs. I am certain that your cat is the King of the household as that is what cats do. Cute poem...loved it. Blessings....Marilyn
