The Sorrow of Love

The solitude of the night creeps in, Despair is so unkind. The vacant space that fills my heart, Serves only to remind, The love I thought would never end, You simply left behind. With darkness comes the loneliness, That ushers in the pain. Let sorrow sing its mournful song, With anguish its refrain. While I'm floundering in self-pity, Knowing our love was in vain. The memories still invade my soul, Your image I still see. Unanswered questions yet remain, Had you stopped loving me? Now I wait in silence for your return, To have my heart set free.
