I's Doris again. I just thought of something else I need to share with you. I am totally new to the use of a computer and I discovered after I had submitted my critiques, moving the arrows up and down changed the rating I had chosen for a poem. If any one received a 1 it was not my intent. I will never use that rating because I think anyone who has been given the gift of poetry should share it with others. Something YOU write may bless someone's life, it may even save someone's life.I would never want to discourage or hurt anyone. God gave that gift for a purpose, we may never learn what that purpose is,but we need to share that gift with others. Thanks again for this website and the friends we gain from it. Comment Date: 5/7/2000 5:17pmHello to fellow poets at The Poetic Link. I am new to this site and very new to computers. My friend Sarah told me about this wonderful site . I decided it was worth the challenge of learning how to operate my grandson's P.C. It has taken me two weeks of trial & error to get this far. I am new to computers but not to poetry. I have had the privilege of attending many workshops over the years, most of them with Sarah. I also have had the advantage of the expertise of a very learned, prize winning poet, a good friend who has helped my writing immensely over the past 15 years. When I critique it is solely to help fellow poets improve their craft. I would hope you take my comments as one poet friend to another, as I shall take your comments about my work when I get around to submitting them. I should like to thank those responsible for setting up this Web Site. It is an invaluable tool for learning, teaching, improving our work. I am hooked, Sarah warned me, and am looking forward to making many new poet friends and learning from all of you. Doris Swearingen

In giving your best to this site, you are encouraging us to give our best to our writing. Not only are you making our lives as poets better and more fullfilling, you are contributing to the future of poetry. Someday, I have no doubt, you will be touted as a wise philanthropist, a mentor of the arts. Not a bad way to be remembered.

This is something I never expected to happen especially because you have so many talented writers at the poetic link. I shall laminate and place this confirmation letter in A FRAM AND IT SHALL TAKE PRIDE OF PLACE ON MY WALL as it is a first for me to win anything with my poetry.I am so inspired by you and the poets at the poetic link and I have just now told the people who run the palmerston town library of this site, I tell every one about it because of the importance of this site for all concerned. When I use your site from my home computer (AOL) I have had no troubles at all. I have really enjoyed the feedback I have been receiving. For the first time since I started writing poetry about ten years ago,this is the first time I have had anyone so much as look at them. I enjoy the poetry of all the others here and all my new friends especially Carles L East, Sarah, Tom Atterberry just to mention a few. I don't really care If I win or not,the comments I recieve about my poetry and the fact that at last people can read them is just the greatest thing for me. I am writing and learning all the time. I learn as much from the critiques I write as from those I receive.
