Mowed Over

I remember: The feel of my hands on the wood handle Smoothly I pulled back, pushed the push-mower Reel blades moved click clack click Scissor cutting haircuts of grasses tops  Little snip clippings returning back to soil Wonderful, the smell of freshly mowed grass Combined with clean quiet air No roar in my ears or fumes in my face No money out of pocket for gasoline I'd almost forgotten about the sweat allowed  days of summer.

Dellena, Wonderfully right on the money, boy had I forgotten those days till you prompted my memories of youth and a simpler life. Thank you for an enjoyable read. Best always, Lora

I love the smell of fresh cut grass. When I was a child, I used to love laying in the grass and watch the clouds listening to the sound of mowers. And if lucky, a plane would go across the sky every so often. But, I guess for the one mowing, yea, lol, the sweat of summer. Rene'

Hi D....what a clever idea for a poem! I too remember those days of the push mower and what a chore it was to cut the grass. The smell of newly cut grass is wonderful and I remember, even as a child, how much I loved that aroma. You have written this without punctuation and made it work very well just using line breaks. The imagery is wonderful and thanks for taking me back to a time when things were simple. I hope we never forget to remember that time in our lives as it may never happen just like that again. cheers.....Marilyn

I know this piece, it is filled with absolute memories and ill regard. I begged for a power mower, today, it is the push mower that I recall with gladness. The smell of fresh cut grass, without fumes, the power of hope and manicured senses- That gentle but powerful sound, of clips and then the whir of free spin. Yes, yes, I think you have met the moment- and the childhood few ever have anymore.

Adorable read filled with memories of days long ago.......to be honest I would not have the strength to push one today but Jerry's auntie who will be 95 on the 24th of August still does..........love the image of the pushing back and forth of the lawn mower and I can see the blades as they snip the top of the grass........indeed a great hair cut in progress and the smell is like none else.....fresh mowed lawn without the fumes and noise of the power ones. Don't forget the sit down ones that mow over my flowers if not careful.......going on the list for the months contest for sure.........thanks for posting and sharing once more the memories you hold dear to your heart too. God Bless, Claire

Dellena, You have the answer for our overweight population...We have gotten to use to the easy way of doing things. What memories you bring back I too remember the task of mowing the grass especially when a clump of grab grass, was needed to be mowed over...Well done for you have painted the picture and showed the comparison. (Most are to young to remember these days) Thomas
