Body Count There are pictures in the news
Idealistic faces and gentle eyed
That thought to save the world
Soldiers dead the TV said!
Killed in action!
Misguided by the powers that be
Wars are fought for greed not peace
Gone are the many hopes and dreams
Gone a life span squelched
Killed in action!
On the dark side of human nature
Personal integrity gets lost
Soldiers come home suicidal
Post traumatic stress the cost
Still they die from war’s action!
Families dissolve, children parentless
Innocent are tortured, suffering and dying
Military bases worldwide must fall
Humanity pays too severe a price
We can"’t forget those killed in action
We can accept differences in people
Not all must eat Mc Donalds
We can live different religions
Every color skin has its beauty
We want and can live peace!
Without being killed in action!

Hi Dellena,
This has a powerful anti- war sentiment flowing through it and the feelings are pure. I wish more of us would sit up and listen. Alas, we become complacent in our own lives unless it really affects us.
I appreciate this piece in the spirit it was written in. I would however look deeper to find a fresher image and form which could not be found here. Perhaps, that is because of the poem's spontaniety.
Take care,
Duane.

Dellena,
You make very valid points. One can feel your anger, indignation and outrage from the passion of your write. That brings us to my next point...your line "killed in action" used in all stanzas except the middle one, why? It through me off, was expecting you to carry that theme through out..perhaps it is just me, I agree that we just don't seem to learn or so many just don't seem to care, very sad.

Hi Dellena; I've been anti-war beginning in my teens - I detest the horror; and as you've stated the greed;
the brainwashing of those who think it's the right way to be; we have to fight; we have to kill - kill or be killed - everything is summed up in this write - each soldier gives; as well as their families - and the cost is high - lives are destroyed, but the government will never change - it's been long in the making of our history that going to war - killing - "for the cause" is justified in some way, shape or form.
I can only say I agree with your thoughts; your expressions of detesting war when it comes down to religion,
the color of skin - and that we do want peace but are being led the other way every day.
Blessings,
Deni

Dellena, until the mindless masses grasp the greatest and most honorable intent (patriotism) is demonstrated in expressing concern and challenge over what has placed the flower of our youth in harm's
way, instead of simply rejoicing they're there, poems like yours will continue to go unheralded. Poetry,
however, can do no greater service. No matter what ANYONE says in muttering undertones, in little side
whispers and unseen jabs to the stomach.
The earth has seen father's and mother's deluded to fantastic extremes, even throwing sons and daughter's
to altars where their hearts were taken, being told their blood would enrich barren soil or keep the sun
in its place, giving them up in droves. For all we pretend, we ultimately are no better when we so easily
delude to unquestioning obedience, when in the balance hang lives.
In so many cases, in so many of these wars recently fought, "killed in action" has been nothing more than
murder.
I applaud your poem.
