Dearest Summer

My dearest summer what took you so long To grace my garden plot I hold so dear? Horizon’s dawn is spreading veils in song Where buds so tightly bound on stems appear. In birthing hours of twilight when the moon That glows beneath the waves of opal light, You’ll gather subtle winds where lovers swoon And wait the swarm of day that shines so bright. So you can leave behind the winter’s fist And bathe my dreams in whisper’s gold embrace. My thoughts of you unravel lilac mist That softly kisses air like angel lace. Your fingers comb the beards of iris plants And opens tender sprouts when dawn enchants.

Cheyenne, the immediacy of growth and rebirth are their own rewards I think, and you have captured well what this world and time bequeath to those willing to absorb the gift. What a fine descriptive, “opal light”, “lovers swoon”, “swarm of day”, “lilac mist” this entire piece is a well painted oil over the mantle, to be looked at while sipping your second grand marnier. A very enjoyable, and in its own way, perceptive look in to the soul that looks at the world.

Another enchanting write Cheyenne - it reads like a melody- a song of the season well structured with unique verbiage that brings out so much wonderful imagery. You are so talented with doing that. I really enjoyed this poem and hope to read it again. Late in getting to poems -but so glad I had the time to read this and comment. Best to you as always, Deni

Such a delicious personification poem of summer. Yes, she comes alive and you present us with all the lush tastes and feels of the glorious colors that summer brings. A very pleasant and uplifting read done with perfect meter that takes your reader gently through your passages. Lora

cheyenne, My garden is slow also. Who stole the sun? My vegetables are working but the coolness cramps their style. And grocery prices climb higher. Sunshine brings such hope of renewal. you 're p oem is lovely despite not enough sun. Hoping it gets warmer........ Dellena
