MY CLOWN

within a simple pine box the Star  of David stark white against the  black drape a clown rests my clown no make-up no red shoes no stethoscope no crazy wig or floppy hat cleansed and robed by  tradition blessed  by his Rabbi praised by a son missed by many especially me his red nose sits upon the dresser the silence  is deafening

Dear Monica; What a lovely tribute to the unconquerable spirit of Arnie. I knew him through his poetry here at the poetic link. An amazing fellow...who was an engineer, changed careers at midlife to nursing and also went to clown college. He just did what interested him....the only problem with that as I can see is that his interests were so varied and life on earth too short for him to achieve all he wanted and was capable of. My life is better for having known Arnie, and I know your loss is deep. Take a certain degree of solace from the fact that he is proud of your work "My Clown" and such self deprecating humor espoused through Comedy is a very humble way to help lift the collective spirit of our fellow man...an idea also that Arnie believed in with his whole heart. Thank you Monica for this work remembering a wonderful Human Being, artist, poet, comic, engineer, nurse, and servant of his fellow man, Arnie S. Wachman. May God bless you and keep you, Gerard A. Geiger

This is an awesome tribute! I can feel the empty room around that dresser....the silence is deafening...how true that is, it conjures up lots of images... I enjoyed this piece for it's simplicity of expression and it's deliverance of emotion. I consider this to be quite good. Although I have never had the priveledge of reading you before, I like the style you used here in this piece.

Monica, This is a wonderful tribute to Arnie. I am so sorry that you must go through this. Arnie was quite a colorful character. We had our time him and I. Pure misunderstanding. He explained himself well in his writings but I'm not sure he understood me. I pray that he's at peace near a waters edge watching the wildlife. Arnie always spoke highly of you. He loved you dearly. He would be very proud of your work. Sincerely sorry, Dellena

Monica I knew Arnie only by our exchanges here. We often said "Let's get together an have a food chat over a coffee ... a bit of a trick for me, since I live in Australia. He struck a chord with me, and I had a lot of time for him. I'm genuinely sorry we never got to meet ... in this life. He had a good heart. We weren't what you'd call "super close", but we were friendly and I miss him. I was very surprised and saddened to hear of his passing. My condolences to you. Mark

Hi Moni....this is such a sad poem and I can truthfully say that I feel your pain and the silence that screams. Arnie was full of fun and a gifted writer. At times he searched for answers, in his writes, but none could give an answer. It is heart breaking that he had to leave but perhaps now he does know the answers now. I pray that your heart will heal quickly even though you will always hold him there. Thank you for sharing this poem. I wish the best for you. God bless....Marilyn

Dear Monica, my sympathy to you on the loss of Arnie. We had many conversations over the past few years, and we crossed poetic swords more than a few times, but while his scarcasitic humor and tongue in cheek wit were caustic initially, over the years he became a delightful critic and psuedo pen pal. Hopefully the memories of joy and light shared with you and your son, will ease your sorrow at his passing. He will be missed by the old guard at TPL and by many others he touched I'm sure. It is also my hope that through the "deafening", you and yours find the peace and comfort offered by our compassionate G_d. Shalom, Paul. PS. Your writing is direct, heartfelt and moving. Poetry is indeed a mirror of the heart, but you always knew that. Peace, Paul

Dear Monica, Thank you for posting this in tribute to your husband. My heart is heavy with sympathy for you and your loss.
